DAY 11 – JACKRABBIT

I do love a good dystopian film. That genre will always peaks my interest. When I stumbled across the cyberpunk-esque trailer for JACKRABBIT (2015), I knew it would satisfy my need for future-gone-wrong cinema. This breakout feature for writer-director Carlton Ranney oozes with intrigue and interesting cinematography. The movie certainly looks far more expensive that it cost. Its only flaw is its pacing. Although the performances were competent and the overall narrative was compelling, the film just slogged along at times. Even the excellent soundtrack couldn’t keep me from getting sleepy. I’ll admit that I was watching this late at night, but I’ve taken on many a deliberately slow and long Japanese or Russian film before an not had this issue. That said, there is another movie that I really like that also puts me to sleep every time I put it on: Soderbergh’s SOLARIS.
